Kooking in the Kitchen with Kayla

I love to cook!!  I always have.  Growing up with 4 brothers and learning how to cook, I only learned how to cook in large amounts.  More and more Kayla has been asking to do more in the kitchen and I have been looking for more way for her to help me.

Saturday afternoon we were shopping at Kroger and we were offered samples of Aidell's Sausage.  They gave us four different flavors and they were all wonderful!  We purchased the Italian with Mozzarella Cheese along with other ingredients to make spaghetti.

We Get Started!!!
1st edition of Kooking in the Kitchen with Kayla (and her kast!)
~she told me to put that~

Kayla about to start the noodles
Kayla cutting sausage with one hand :)

We placed the sausage on to the Advantium Speedcook tray and popped it in to the oven.  Next, I let Kayla press the SPEEDCOOK pad -> then dial breakfast -> choose breakfast sausage links, 4-8 --> then start.

Sausage Before
Sausage After (sooo delicious, we taste tested it)

Here is a picture of the sauce splatter.  Before we added the sausage.  Once we turned the heat down, Kayla added the sausage to let it simmer in the sauce.

Next we made toast!! in the Advantium!!  And yes, my 12 year old toaster is leaving my counter and coming to work with me.  I don't need it :)

But before the bread went in the Advantium, Kayla took a stick of butter out of the freezer and placed it the Advantium and selected the micorwave Pre-Set Soften - Butter.

From the GE Advantium User Manual

We selected the option to toast and watched it turn golden.

And Volia!!!  Dinner was served and leftovers for lunch!!

Oh how I love French Fries!!

If I ever had to eat only one thing for the rest of my life, it would be a potato.  I love potatoes....  I loved them baked, fried, and mashed.  I love putting English peas in them.  I can eat any way all day.  I just love potatoes!!

One of the first frozen foods I have cooked in my Advantium Oven were frozen french fries.

The directions say to preheat oven to 450 - plus another 18-23 min. to cook.  I am too impatient!!!

With the GE Advantium technology there is not need to preheat.  The oven uses the effectiveness of light with radiant heat produced by halogen bulbs both above and below the food.  This technology evenly cooks and browns the food, and faster than the conventional oven!!

This is a hit with my kids!!  Also, this is something that my kids can do!  I do not let them take them out, that is my job!! :)

Happy 10th Birthday Kayla Belle

It does not seem like ten years have gone by since I was laying in the hospital, waiting to hold my Kayla Belle!

Now!  here she is, 10 years old and thinks she is 18.  She is my joy!!  and I love her so much!

Last night after she went to bed, I used this applique of the Mockingjay that Apex Embroidery created and made Kayla a birthday shirt.  (Apex Embroidery is awesome!!!)  Jeff and I decided to let her see the Hunger Games over spring break and she loved it!!   Now she really wants to read the books!!  What do I do??   I have talked with a few moms and teachers that have read them to see if they might be too "old" for her.  We are still trying to determine if we will let her!!  What is your opinion?

Birthday Girl

I am so happy how her shirt turned out!  I used the 6 in applique.  I found the "real" mockingjay pin at Target.
Everyone eating blue!

Blue teeth from blue icing!

We will continue her birthday festivities tonight with her cousins and lots of pizza!!

I love you baby girl!  So proud you are mine!  Thank you God for trusting her with me!!

Sporting Pink!

Look who will be sporting hot pink and glitter through out the
summer!!
My Kayla Belle

Yep!  That's Kayla!

Monday night the kids were out riding there bikes and scooters when Kayla came running in saying Brody fell off his bike.  I ran out side and saw him laying in the driveway holding his knee and crying.  Thankfully he had on jeans so the scratches were minimal.  I brought him inside and sat on the couch and babied him.  He still lets me do that :)

It wasn't 5 minutes later Kayla comes running in the house telling me she fell off her scooter!!!!  What!!!  You have got to be kidding me!!  She scrapped her knee and was holding her wrist.  She could wiggle her fingers and move her arm but she said it felt like her wrist would pop if she moved it!  I was hoping she was wanting me to baby her on the couch :)

The rest of the evening I watched her and how she moved her arm.  I helped her get a shower and then ready for bed and even propped her arm up for her to sleep.

Tuesday morning she didn't want to get up for school and was still complaining that her wrist still hurt so I took her to urgent care.  I try not to take my kids to the dr. everytime they have a bump or bruise, but she would not move her wrist.

The sweet Dr. at the urgent care took x-rays and wrapped her wrist.  He said it was hard to see anything but a bump BUT better be safe than sorry, why don't we go see an orthopedic specialist.  Your Kidding right???

So, Wednesday morning we headed down to the Ortho. spec. and was told after we had been there almost 30 min. that the Dr. was running an hour behind....

3 hours later, the Dr. showed us on Kayla's x-rays that there was a fracture in her scaphoid bone, and not only was there a fracture, but it is the hardest bone in the hand to heal.  Apparently, the blood flows down your arm into your fingers except for this bone, the blood flows the opposite way.  The cast wearing time for this injury !! 3 months!!

Dr. Tucker was so nice and said we would try for 2 1/2 months instead, depending on the healing.

Thanks to modern science we now have a pink, glittery, waterproof cast.  YES!  She can shower and swim!! YEAH!!!!  She was told she could even play soccer, if the coach would let her.

She has been such a trooper!  She has not complained of too much pain, she said it gets uncomfortable.  She started to go to sleep last night, but sat up crying in a panic and wanting her Mammy, trying to count how many days was in 2 1/2 months.  Our neighbors brought her a balloon and a card and a bag of M&M's!

My poor baby girl!

Soccer/Baseball Ready!!!

I am not much a "lover" of sports.  I pass them when changing the channels on t.v.   I guess there is something about watching from my home does not make it exciting to me!

But... when my kids put on their uniforms and hit the field, I am "one-of-those" moms!!!

I holler and cheer for my babies!!  Brody will look at me and later tell me that I embarrass him.  I can't help it!!!  I love to watch them play!

I wanted to show some "spirit" for the kids, so I made some necklaces.  These were so much fun to make.  I have even made them for our neighbor for his birthday!

I wear them together on two different length chains!!  So much fun supporting  my kids, even if I look a fool doing it!!
